First mate wants to scuttle the ship, explains his plan of triggered explosives and everything, but insists it will only harm the captain’s crew and not sink the ship. If you disagree, you’re with the captain. This gets him a large following. Second mate knows this looks bad, stays silent-ish to appease, but is still attacked for it. Both have as their main strategy “make the captain’s crew angrier -> ??? -> we win, didn’t work last 2 times because we didn’t try hard enough”.
