It suddenly occurs to me that KAA invented an Andalite punishment that doesn’t actually make sense with everything we know in the series. In book 40, it’s made pretty clear that Mertil’s tail loss is permanent, as he cannot receive the morphing technology. If he COULD, he’d just morph, demorph, and boom, his tail is fine. In book 54, Aximili issues that challenge with the support of Alloran… and says if it goes ahead, and he loses, he will be permanently exiled, and his tail blade will be cut of
