I was skeptical about these, but I have a fair number of devices that use 9v batteries. These rechargeables work great.original ↗

I picked up this promotional poster for this Sybex title because I love this book so much. Palm V for scale on both the book and the poster… the poster is MUCH bigger than I expected. Now to find a place to put it.original ↗

Happy leap day! Decided to do some Gregorian calendar leap year calculations in assembly the hard way. KIM-1 clone is the right tool for the job!original ↗

This "Caring for your Computer" book by Rodnay Zaks/Sybex from 1981 has some EXTREMELY RELEVANT life advice for 2024. Control your emotions... brilliant.original ↗

Decided to take the plunge and buy a computer for our home. There are a lot of choices so I found this book to help us decide what’s right for us.original ↗

I have absolutely no memory of this day or who took this picture. But there is proof that I smiled once. It was the 90s, and this is probably at 2 am, so that's my excuse.original ↗

Enjoying this add-on to the Flipper. "Games" will be cool, but making screen captures of the Flipper is really what I wanted. Almost as cool as a Commodore (which can also play DOOM).original ↗

Converting my 6502 Cluster to run WOZMON and MS BASIC. It was running just machine code and sometimes Eh-BASIC, but this fits my style better. Happy Thursday!original ↗

It's a fun and very short little book, but the number of typos, especially in the code listings, is next level. Bravo!original ↗

It's day 12 with the Atari 800XL, and I'm wrapping my head around how far ahead it was in several areas. For example, graphics like this are actually relatively easy.original ↗

I feel really spoiled on the C64 with TMP. I use Merlin on the Apple II, which is pretty good. Currently trying MAC/65 on the Atari 800. Does anyone have a different Assembler they like better?original ↗

More Atari BASIC vs Turbo BASIC XL fun with my "standard marginal method" benchmark. I always thought the jiffy clock wasn't available on the Atari, but it lacks a convenient method. It still works fine if you use it directly.original ↗

Switched to this serial multiplexer by Atlas Scientific for my 6502 cluster communications. This lets me keep everything serial and control it with an 8-bit computer for job scheduling and data aggregation. Happy Friday!original ↗

I got the last Christmas present of the year from my Son today. He had a custom wood map made for me that took months longer than anticipated. Definitely worth the wait.original ↗

Modern PCB manufacturing has become so easy and convenient. It's basically the same price to get 50 as it is to get 5 boards made. So that means I have 49 spares...original ↗

We have about 12 inches of dead space above our kitchen cabinets. My better half suggested that a train might work up there. There isn’t really room to turn one around so something that can run equally well in either direction seemed appropriate. Now to design a bridge to go over the window… I’m not into celebrities, but if pressed I don’t have to think hard to come up with my favorite. Any guesses?original ↗

It's a random lunchtime side quest, working to generate a circle with 41 of character 81 on a Commodore 64. Each iteration has been getting smoother. If you have a better way, let me know.original ↗

Snowed/iced in this evening. Might as well hook up the 6502 cluster to a VIC-20 and get it calculating things at blazing speeds :) Been using the EEPROM emulator since early last year to really speed up my ROM development cycles. Oh, here’s another 100% AI free zone.original ↗

I’m the one who put this “working” label on this power supply but I have never, ever plugged it in without verifying. It’s actually my only working 2 prong. I have three with bad transformers.original ↗

Porting Wozmon to my 6502 cluster nodes and I spent several hours chasing a “bug” in my code. Turns out I had this box unchecked in my terminal emulator. Was working all along. Doh.original ↗

In 2021, I did a deep dive into Swift; I no longer use it. In 2022, it was Julia. I don't use it anymore. 2023 was Elixir; my usage is dropping off. In 2024, it's going to be Rust. Will it remain in my toolbox or be another tangent for me? Time will tell.original ↗

Just finished building this guy. It's a fun project and a decent learning environment to mash the RP2040 C++ environment with 6502 Assembly. It's an unlikely but surprisingly good pairing. What would be better on the RP2040, though? Rust.original ↗

Alright Mr PET, you’re sitting #adventofcode2023 out today. Today’s is a doozy and you’ve earned a break.original ↗

I appreciate modern conveniences more: first principles are worth it. Today's #adventofcode2023 in Python was 14 lines. Was 68 on the PET. Things like re.split("\s+", line) and list(map(int, parts[2:12])) feel like cheating. Do y'all even know how any of this works? ;-)original ↗

Didn't have much trouble with #AdventOfCode today BUT I'm reminded of how modern languages can do things like s.split(":") and get a nice list. Appreciate how much work went into that built-in function we take for granted. String splitting 1979 style for that 1st set of cubes...original ↗

Minor Micro-Soft (yes, 1976 spelling)/Commodore BASIC nitpick. Arrays are zero-based (as god intended), but MID$ is one-based. I mixed up this as a kid and sometimes get tripped up today. Anyway, I'm reviewing my 2022 #aventofcode stuff to prep for Friday.original ↗
